M Alfonso Valdes was born on February 25, 1986, daughter of two musicians of excellent reputation and founders of the group Sintesis: Ele Valdes and Carlos Alfonso. From early days she felt deep interest in her parents' profession, so she aimed her first steps towards music.

She began her musical studies in the specialties of Piano and choral singing at age 7 in Alejandro Garcia Caturla Conservatory. Parallel to her academic training she also participated in some live concerts with Sintesis.

In 1994 she participates in the recording of the soundtrack for the Mexican film Amor Brujo, created by Cuban composer Jose Maria Vitier. Although it was not her first recording -a year before she had collaborated with Silvio Rodriguez-, it was her initial contact with the film universe, from which she draw positive experiences that influenced her future projection.

Once completed the elementary level studies, she moved to a higher artistic training when she joined the National School of Arts (ENA) in 2001.

M participates in several international festivals allowing her to enrich her own universe of styles and sounds: The Grand Performance Festival (Los Angeles, USA, 2000), Rhythm and Color (USA 2000), Fiesta de la Musica (Panama, 2001), Nuits d'Afrique (Canada 2001), among others. She joins the Cuban delegation to the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2002, making presentations with Sintesis in several Mexican stages including The National Auditorium (Federal District) in December that year.

She participates again in the creation of a soundtrack. This time for the film Miel para Oshun, from the director Humberto Solas, who died shortly after.

As a member of Sintesis, Eme is involved in a recording project nominated for the Latin Grammy awards 2002: Habana a flor de piel.

This artist explores the broad stylistic spectrum of Cuban music, collaborating on musical productions of several of the most important creators: Amaury Perez (CD Christmas Songs), Issac Delgado (CD Malecon) and X Alfonso (CD X-More, a tribute to Benny More, the King of Rhythm, which reached three Latin Grammy nominations in 2002, and in the CD Civilization, 2004).

In 2005, Eme finished her studies and graduated from the specialty of Choral Conducting at the National School of Arts.

She has also appeared alongside Sintesis in international festivals such as Pop Kom (Germany, 2005), the Jazz a Nice (France, 2006), the Festival de Zacatecas (Mexico, 2007), Ollin Khan (Mexico, 2007) and Planeta Mestizo (Spain, 2007).

She has collaborated in other artists' musical productions, like Liuba Maria Hevia (CD Iluminame, 2005); Telmarys (CD Telmarys, 2006), X Alfonso (CD Revoluxion, 2007); Ariel Bringuez (CD Raices en colores, 2007) and Yusa (CD Haiku, 2007). She also sang with Sintesis in Homenaje a J.M. Serrat, Vol.II, in which several Cuban performers arranged original songs from the Spanish singer.

She was part of a Dance project creating music with X Alfonso for the piece What to expect when you're expecting", by DanzAbierta Company (2007). She collaborated with the Faculty of Audiovisual Media from the Arts High Institute in making the soundtrack for Tamara Segura's documentary Fashion in Cuba", an experience she repeated creating original music for a radio series for children, a work which earned her The Caracol Prize awarded by the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC): ''Stories from the Countryside''.

At the end of 2007, M records her first solo album, Senales (Signals), after a direct contact with the public welcoming the artist's personal project. Without leaving the band to which she belongs and the development of her own CD in that year she integrates a trio with the known Cuban multi-instrumentalist and performer Yusa, and the Brazilian percussionist Simone Soul. The three women presented, along the whole 2008, in various stages in the Netherlands, England and France, showing a minimalist aesthetics quite different from Sintesis' aesthetics.

She was part of the cast of the musical that Lizt Alfonso Ballet presented in Cuba and Canada under the direction of Kelly Robinson and Lizt Alfonso. She shared the stage with Omara Portuondo, the Buena Vista Social Club Diva, and Ele Valdes, mother of the artist and lead singer of Sintesis. The musical Vida (Life) won the Dora Award in Canada and is considered one of the five most important events released in that country in 2007.

Her career runs in parallel to Sintesis, with which she attends the Vienna Waldhofen Festival an der Thaya (Austria, 2008); the Tom de Fest (Portugal, 2008) and the Perc Pan (Brazil, 2008). She participates in the jazz CD 'Palpitando en el Espacio' ('Throbbing in space'), of the young composer and pianist Alfredo Rodriguez Salicio. She also worked and recorded with the Spanish composer Kepa Junkera in November 2009.

She was selected by the Cuban Institute of Music to sing along with the legendary band 'Cool and the Gang' at a concert held in Havana in April 2010.

She participated as a composer on the CD 'Traigo para dar' of Sintesis Group, sharing once again with Omara Portuondo and recorded in 2010.

Within a margin of concerts in Havana M sings with the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra in the Cubadisco Festival, 2010.

She participated in the CD of the Canadian singer Florence K. produced by the composer Oswaldo Montes.

The CD Senales (Signals) was released after 11 months of experimentation in the quest of different sounds. The CD is bound to a DVD with a live concert performed by the composer and film director X Alfonso and two video clips: Signals 2009 and Angel, 2010.

Influenced by the most recent styles -world music, R & B, soul, jazz, Cuban music..-. M debuts mixing signals of a known universe with other signals born from uniting spontaneity and subtlety. Electronic sounds, the gentle timbre of breaking glass, steps, the omnipresence of her voice in the chorus sounding at different levels... are just some of the resources used by the singer over nine songs which amaze tenderly the listener. She was nominated in four categories winning the best fusion album prize in Cubadisco 2009. In 2010 Senales appeared in its second edition in the Mexican market. Soon to be released in the United States and Canada by Hecho a Mano en Cuba.

With Michael Olivera's active collaboration in percussion, programming and arrangement of most of the pieces, and the contribution of young excellent musicians of the Cuban scene (Alfredo Rodriguez, Maykel Olivera and Gaston Joya), M has begun a period of her life in which she aspires to take her music to those who love the art of giving happiness with the poetry of silence and sounds. And, if something is evident when listening to the music of this novel musician, it is the certainty that, behind the signals more than a surprise are hiding away.

M Alfonso Valdes, nace el 25 de febrero de 1986, hija de musicos de excelente prestigio y fundadores del grupo Sintesis: Ele Valdes y Carlos Alfonso. Desde muy temprano siente profundo interes por la profesion de sus padres y hacia ella dirige sus primeros pasos por el camino del Arte.

Comienza sus estudios musicales a los 7 anos de edad en el Conservatorio Alejandro Garcia Caturla en las especialidades de Piano y Direccion Coral. Paralelo al desarrollo de su formacion academica va realizando esporadicamente presentaciones en vivo de caracter profesional junto a Sintesis.

En 1994 participa en la grabacion de la banda sonora, para el filme mexicano Amor brujo, creado por el compositor Jose Maria Vitier. Aunque no se trata de su bautizo discografico -pues un ano atras habia colaborado con Silvio Rodriguez- si fue su contacto inicial con el universo cinematografico, del que extrajo experiencias que han influido de manera positiva en su proyeccion futura.

Culmina sus estudios de Nivel Elemental con brillantes resultados, y pasa a una etapa superior de su preparacion artistica al ingresar en la Escuela Nacional de Arte (ENA) en el 2001.

En esta ultima fecha se une oficialmente al grupo Sintesis, que en la decada del '70 define su linea principal relacionada con la integracion del Rock universal a los ritmos afrocubanos.

Participa en varios festivales internacionales que le permiten alimentar con la multiple savia de los estilos universales su propio entorno sonoro: el Grand Performance Festival (Los Angeles, EUA, 2000 ); el Ritmo y Color (EUA 2000); La Fiesta de la musica (Panama, 2001); el Nuits d' Afrique (Canada 2001), entre otros. Integra la delegacion cubana que representa a su pais natal en la Feria Internacional del Libro Guadalajara 2002 actuando junto a Sintesis en el Auditorio Nacional (Distrito Federal) y en varios escenarios de Mexico, en diciembre de ese ano.

Vuelve a ser parte de la banda sonora de una pelicula, en este caso de Miel para Oshun del director cubano, ya desaparecido, Humberto Solas.

Como integrante de Sintesis, Eme (o M, su nombre artistico y casi ya el que lleva en la vida cotidiana) participa en un proyecto discografico que es nominado al Grammy Latino 2002: el CDHabana a flor de piel.

M explora con varios artistas el amplio espectro estilistico de la musica cubana, colaborando en producciones discograficas de varios de sus mas importantes creadores: Amaury Perez (CD Canciones de Navidad); Isaac Delgado (CD Malecon) y X Alfonso (CD X-More,un homenaje al Barbaro del Ritmo, Benny More, que alcanzo tres nominaciones al Grammy Latino en el 2002; y el CD Civilizacion, 2004).

El ano 2005, termina su etapa de estudiante graduandose en la Especialidad de Direccion Coral en la Escuela Nacional de Arte de Cuba.

Aparece junto a Sintesis en Festivales internacionales tales como el Pop Kom (Alemania, 2005), el Jazz a Nice (2006), el Festival de Zacatecas (Mexico, 2007), el Ollin Khan (Mexico, 2007) y el Planeta Mestizo (Espana, 2007).

Colabora en producciones discograficas de disimiles artistas: Liuba Maria Hevia (CD Iluminame, 2005); Telmarys (CD Telmarys, 2006); X Alfonso (CD Revoluxion, 2007); Ariel Bringuez (CD Raices en colores, 2007) y Yusa (CD Haiku, 2007). En el CD Homenaje a Serrat, Vol.II, dentro del cual varios interpretes cubanos versionan temas del cantautor espanol, entre ellos Sintesis.

Forma parte de un proyecto danzario creando musica junto a X Alfonso para el espectaculo - Que se puede esperar cuando se esta esperando?, de la Compania DanzAbierta (2007); Colabora con estudiantes de la Facultad de Arte de los Medios de Comunicacion Audiovisual del Instituto Superior de Arte en la realizacion de la banda sonora para el documental La moda en Cuba, de Tamara Segura, experiencia que repite al crear la musica original para la serie infantil de radio, que le valio el Premio Caracol otorgado por la Union de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC), Historias de la Manigua.

Al finalizar el 2007, M se encuentra enfrascada en la grabacion de su primer disco como solista, Senales, tras el contacto directo con el publico que acoge favorablemente el proyecto personal de la artista. Sin abandonar, sin embargo, la banda a la que pertenece y el desarrollo de su CD, integra un trio con la conocida multiinstrumentista e interprete cubana Yusa, y la percusionista brasilena Simone Soul. Las tres se presentan, a lo largo de todo el 2008, en varios escenarios de Holanda, Inglaterra y Francia, mostrando una estetica minimalista que difiere en mucho de la estetica de Sintesis.

Formo parte del elenco del espectaculo musical que el Ballet Lizt Alfonso propone a los publicos de Cuba y Canada, dirigido por Nelly Robinson y la propia Lizt Alfonso. Comparte alli escenario con Omara Portuondo, la diva del Buenavista Social Club, y con Ele Valdes, madre de la artista y vocalista principal de Sintesis. Vida (pues este es el nombre de la obra) obtuvo el premio Dora en Canada por ser considerado uno de los 5 espectaculos mas importantes estrenados en ese pais en el 2007.

Su carrera marcha paralelamente a la de Sintesis, con el cual asiste al Festival Viena Waidofehen An Der Thaya (Austria, 2008); al Tom de Fest (Portugal, 2008) y al Perc Pan (Brasil, 2008). Ademas, acentua sus vinculos con el jazz siendo participe del CD Palpitando en el espacio, del joven compositor Alfredo Rodriguez Salicio. Trabajo y grabo Junto al compositor Espanol Kepa Junkera Noviembre 2009.

Fue Seleccionada por el Instituto De la Musica Cubana a cantar junto a Cool and the Gang en un Concierto realizado en la Habana en Abril de 2010.

Participo como compositora en el CD Traigo para Dar del Grupo Sintesis compartiendo una vez mas con Omara Portuondo grabado en 2010.

Dentro de un margen de conciertos realizados en la Habana M canta junto a la Sinfonica Nacional de Cuba en el Festival Cubadisco 2010.

Participa en el CD de la Cantante Canadiense Florance K Producido por el compositor Oswaldo Montes.

El CD Senales, sale al mercado editado por la Casa Disquera, despues de casi 11 meses de ardua experimentacion en su busqueda por lograr sonoridades diferentes. El disco aparece acompanado de un concierto en vivo Dirigido por el compositor y Realizador X Alfonso. Dos videos clip el primer, Senales 2009 y angel 2010.

Influenciada por los estilos mas actuales - el world music, el R&B, el soul, el jazz... - M debuta mezclando las senales" de un universo conocido con otras que nacen de unir espontaneidad y sutileza. Elementos electronicos, el suave timbre de cristales al chocar, pasos, la presencia omnisciente de su voz en los coros que superpone tras diferentes planos sonoros... son solo algunos de los recursos que emplea la cantante y que asombran entranablemente al receptor de las 9 canciones que conforman el fonograma nominado en 4 categorias y Ganador del mejor album musica fusion en Cubadisco 2009. En su segunda Edicion por el territorio de Mexico, abarcando la tiendas mas importantes de la Republica. Pronto ser liberado en los Estados Unidos y Canada por Hecho a Mano en Cuba.

Con la colaboracion activa de Michael Olivera (percusiones, programaciones y arreglos de la mayoria de los temas); y el aporte de excelentes musicos jovenes de la escena cubana: Alfredo Rodriguez, Maykel Olivera y Gaston Joya, M ha iniciado una etapa de su vida en la que aspira llevar su musica a aquellos que amen el arte de hacer feliz con la poesia del silencio y el sonido. Y es que, si algo es evidente al escuchar la musica de esta novisima interprete, es la certeza de que, tras las senales, se ocultan mas de una sorpresa.
