Los Angeles, CA -- Hecho A Mano En Cuba (Handmade In Cuba) is the first United States record label devoted solely to the legendary music of the country of Cuba. The majority of Cuban artists have not been properly introduced to a United States audience over the last five decades because of the strained relationships between the respective governments. Cuban artists have always been at the forefront of Spanish language music.
Hecho A Mano En Cuba will function as a full service record label and distribution company utilizing the new digital means of promotion and sales to bring this incredible music to the American Latin audience. The musical output of Cuba has kept pace with current styles including hip-hop and reggaeton. There are numerous Cuban artists who are the equivalent of Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin, Jenifer Lopez and Man.
In its first two years of operation, the label will establish an online presence to release, solely by digital means, 5,000 catalog and current Cuban titles for over 500 albums. During this period, the company will handpick over 100 selected catalog albums by artists such as Celia Cruz, Los Van Van, Benny Mor and members of the Buena Vista Social Club. There will be 40 new album titles from contemporary artists encompassing pop, jazz, salsa, rock, folk, Afro-Cuban, hip-hop and reggaeton. The first releases from HECHO A MANO EN CUBA will take place at the end of March 2009. President Frank Roszak says that, "the label will present this incredible body of music and these incredible artists with the promotion, publicity and marketing necessary to reestablish the music of Cuba to its proper place in the American market." |

Bill Dern brings over three decades of professional experience in the music industry. An award winning jazz drummer as a teenager and a session player in and around New York City at the age of 17, he learned the record business from the inside out. Educated at Fordham College and the Wharton Graduate School of Finance, he then worked in commercial banking for Marine Midland Bank for three years. After this he worked for the Dreyfus Corporation in fund management before commencing on his career in the music industry.
As a personal manager, Bill represented over forty acts and played an integral role in building many careers, including New Edition, Bobby Brown, John Waite, Donny Osmond, Dr. John, Tangerine Dream, The Manhattans, and film composer Michael Kamen. He served as a consultant or executive producer for acts and companies such as The Temptations, Boys II Men, The Four Tops, LOUD Records, MCA Records, RCA Records, BMG Music Publishing, and many others.
Bill has a vast network of personal contacts throughout the worldwide music industry. He has played key roles in many major contract negotiations. With knowledge encompassing the playing and recording of music, management and artist development, business affairs, music marketing and promotion, he has served as either president, general manger, or consultant to a number of independent record labels. For the past five years he has specialized in the distribution side of the business around the world, utilizing developments of the new digital universe along with traditional bricks and mortar distribution. |

Frank Roszak brings over 30 years of experience in the music industry and a wide array of talents that have made him an industry fixture for three decades. As a Multi-Platinum award winning Producer and Engineer, Frank has lent his considerable skills to a variety of chart topping artists. Evidence of Frank's work can be found on The Pet Shop Boys' Grammy nominated hit "West End Girls", Colonel Abrams' international hits "Trapped" and "Music is the Answer", as well as recordings by The Jacksons and The Bahamen (Who Let the Dogs Out) fame.

Gary Katz, is an acclaimed producer, who has helped create some of the best known music of our time.as well as discovering and helping to launch the careers of many of the music businesses superstars.Gary discovered and produced the 8 original Steely Dan records with all but one being nominated for the Grammy for Best Album of the Year. Gary was a Vice-President of A&R at ABC-Dunhill Records where he was instrumental in the signing of such artists as Jimmy Buffet, Chaka Khan (Rufus), and Jim Croce, as well as handling all the production work with Steely Dan.
At Warner Brothers Records Gary joined a legendary staff that is still regarded as THE premier a&r staff , where he was hands-on responsible for the signing of Prince, Dire Straits, Rickie Lee Jones, Christopher Cross, and producing among other albums, Donald Fagen's Grammy-nominated solo album "The Nightfly". Gary has produced records with some of the great artists during this period, including, seminal songwriter Laura Nyro, Joe Cocker, Tupac Shakur, Diana Ross, Peter Tosh, 10cc,Digital Underground, Rosie Vela and Eye To Eye Gary is a veteran of over 30 years experience and headed up Jake Records (Universal) as well as consulting to all the major labels in the business.

David Meinert has forged a career in the music industry based firmly on quality professional relationships, solid leadership and vision, and a deep knowledge of the many facets of the industry. As the owner of Fuzed Music, a partner in Fuzed Travel, an entertainment travel agency, and the owner of the hip hop label MassLine, David currently handles the careers of the Presidents of the United States of America, Blue Scholars, and Common Market. Likewise, his services are actively sought by industry professionals in the development of events and programming. David serves as the co-owner and producer of the Capitol Hill Block Party, a Seattle music festival showcasing over 50 bands on 4 stages, with an annual attendance in excess of 16,000, and is a programming consultant for the Bumbershoot Festival, a Seattle institution now in its 27th year of programming.
Companies and organizations worldwide are equally drawn to David's professional expertise. He is a National Trustee of The Recording Academy (The Grammy's), where he serves as co-chair of the Technology Sub-Committee. David also serves as Vice President of Business Development and Industry Relations for ScreenPlay Inc. His base of knowledge and standing in the industry have allowed him the opportunity to give back to the music community. After graduating from Western Washington University with a double major in Philosophy and Economics, Meinert became involved in many music-related activist groups such as Home Alive, JAMPAC, and The Seattle City Council's Music and Youth Task Force. David is also a founding Board member of the Vera Project, a non-profit, volunteer, youth-run, all ages venue in downtown Seattle, and a member of the Mayor's Seattle Music Office Advisory Committee. |

Otto Baeten - Committee Member
Otto Baeten is an industry insider, possessing nearly four decades of International Music Industry experience. He served as the Dutch label manager, and later the European Liason for MOTOWN Records during which time he was an integral part of the commercial success of such artists as Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Rick James, the Commodores, and Lionel Richie. During this time he represented the label in all European licenses, and in doing so was a staple of the company in its many incarnations (EMI, Vogue, RCA, BMG, and Polygram). Building upon these experiences, Otto started his own company, Otto Baeten Projects in Music, and later formed a production division, Quiet Storm and subsequently opened QS Sound Lab recording studios. He later handled the A&R Consultancy for Sony/ATV Music Publishing and EMI Records, and developed a platform for young artists in conjunction with Sony, EMI, JIVE, and EVA. In addition to these accomplishments, Otto currently represents European management interests for Hyena Records/Music Force Media Group, as well as facilitating distribution, public relations, sales and marketing for the company. |

Eric Mercury - Committee Member
Eric Mercury was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, where he currently resides. He entered this world as a member of a skilled musical family. That gave him the chance to polish natural talents of singing and performing at an age when most children are happy simply mastering the alphabet and double-digit numbers. Just before the '60s rolled in, Mercury went out on his own, joining groups like the Pharaohs before moving up from band member to front man with Eric Mercury and the Soul Searchers. In 1968, Mercury made two substantial changes in his life. First, he left Toronto behind for New York. Second, he left the safety of a group and went solo. A short year later he released his solo debut album, Electric Black Man. During the next decade he recorded eight more albums, the last of which was released in 1975. In the 1980s, Eric began working behind the scenes in the music world, both in Canada and the United States as a music producer and writer. During this time, Eric also embarked on one of his most meaningful musical experiences. He spent two years in Cuba, performing, writing, and producing with some of the most notable figures in Cuban music of the time, relationships he maintains to this day. Eric's 40 year career has afforded him the opportunity of meeting and working with some of the most important entertainers and production executives in the music industry, learning the music industry from virtually all angles - performer, writer, and producer. In the process, Eric has grown into a highly respected and inspirational leader for generations of writers, performers, and music industry professionals. |

John Resendez - Committee Member
John Resendez is a professional educator from the Los Angeles area currently teaching at Budlong Avenue Elementary located in South Central Los Angeles. He has and currently serves on several councils and advisory boards charged with increasing parental and community involvement, spearheading the infusion and curricular implementation of technology to teachers and students, organizing festivals and events for students and the community, and has assumed positions of leadership in an effort to improve school wide discipline, streamline the professional development of his fellow educators, and elevate the instructional processes within his school. In additon as a member of the Quadrangle Management and Consulting Group, John has worked closely with the groundbreaking daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra. As a natural extension of this relationship, John has co-founded and serves as the director of the daKAH Institute for Symphonic Hip Hop (D.I.S.H.), a full service music institute servicing the greater Los Angeles area. Upon its inception, D.I.S.H. was immediately recognized by the City of Los Angeles' Department of Cultural Affairs to fill citywide programming for their Music LA program. Driven by his unique perspective on music education, to establish the joy of music as the primary goal of music instruction, D.I.S.H. has been able to serve a wide range of students, from diverse backgrounds, and of varying levels of ability and consistently produce quality programming. It is these notions of service, consistency, and quality that are the cornerstones of John's approach to all matters, professional and otherwise. |
